Winchester Cathedral

Conservation works at Winchester Cathedral

December 20 2016

Client: Winchester Cathedral

Modern Access have been appointed to carry out the renovation works at Winchester cathedral, as part of their £10.5 million refurbishment.

Winchester Cathedral represents the opportunity to work on another historic building steeped in the UK’s history for the company as well as showcase their new division and business investment, Modern Access, within which a custom made temporary roof was constructed – the first of its kind in the UK on a cathedral.

The cathedral qualifies as a Grade 1 listed ancient scheduled monument as it lies within Winchester’s Conservation Area and the project requires a sympathetic approach for scaffolding requirements.

The continuing works at Winchester Cathedral will include interior and exterior works, including the South Presbytery, the High Vault, the North and South Transept for repair and refurbishment of stained glass windows, historic statues and stonework, as well as the new development to house the 12th Century Winchester Bible. The scope of the conservation works can be found upon the Winchester Cathedral website.
