New Tropical House at Marwell Zoo

April 20 2017

Client: Drew Construction for Marwell Zoo

Marwell Zoo is on the fringe of the South Downs National Park between Eastleigh and Winchester.  It is owned by Marwell Wildlife, a world renowned, action oriented charity that leads conservation programmes in the UK and Africa.

Work has recently started on their new Tropical House.  Planned to open in 2018, the Tropical House will be the largest ever built in Marwell.  It will span two levels offering fantastic vantage points across a lush tropical canopy.  It will house mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects.

For now though it houses two scaffolders from Blencowe Scaffolding supporting Herbert H Drew and Son Limited.  This is not without its challenges.  This is a serpentine building, inside and out, on a complex site – this does not lend itself to the straight lines of scaffolding boards.  Nevertheless, as the pictures show, our scaffolders have followed not only the lines of the building but also the demands of the site and the customer.

To see the work in progress and, from 2018, to visit the Tropical House, go to Marwell Zoo to plan your trip.  To see what else Herbert H Drew and Son are doing, visit Drew Construction.
